Are you feeling the call to head back to the mainland? Do you want to settle in someplace warm and dry, but with lots of activity like Las Vegas?
If you are thinking about hiring a long-distance mover soon, take the time to research this Desert Oasis. You’ll find there are lots of reasons to move to Las Vegas, Nevada. It’s a town filled to the brim with entertainment and great employment opportunities.
A Great Cost of Living & Retirement Destination
The bright lights of the Strip and the expensive hotels in downtown Las Vegas may give the impression that this city has a prohibitive cost of living, but that’s not so. According to PayScale.com, the average cost of living in Las Vegas is only 1% higher than the nationwide average.
In fact, there are many reasonably priced neighborhoods, including Lone Mountain and Centennial Hills. Both of which boast a wider cross-section of residents like young families, singles, and retirees.
Those who are looking for a more senior-focused community and who have a little extra to spare in the budget, might want to check out Summerlin. A high-end area, this part of Las Vegas also has many 55+ communities for those looking to retire here.
Employment Opportunities
It should come as no surprise that the largest employment sector in Las Vegas is leisure and hospitality. Some of the biggest employers in this industry include the Flamingo Las Vegas Hotel and MGM Grand. These two hotels boast thousands of employees between them.
Another big employer in the Las Vegas area is the military. Nellis Air Force Base is located here and reportedly 12,000 people work on the base in some capacity.
Last but certainly not least, a big job sector in Las Vegas is trade, transportation, and utilities. It takes a lot of skilled tradespeople to ensure that this city continues to light up the night. These employers include The City of Las Vegas and the Las Vegas Valley Water District.
Easy Public Transportation
There are many ways to get around Las Vegas. Many locals and tourists use Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) buses when downtown. The city even operates a 24-hour route on The Strip. Called the Deuce, this bus just travels up and down the Strip all day long, revisiting bus stops every 10 – 15 minutes.
Other options include the Monorail, taxis, ride-sharing, and car rentals. Yep, Las Vegas has a monorail. This unique form of transport runs along a 3.9-mile-long line from the MGM Station to the SAHARA Las Vegas Station.
The Outdoor Lifestyle
There are also a lot of outdoor activities for people to enjoy in and around Las Vegas. For example, in the city proper you can visit the Springs Preserve, which is a 180-acre nature preserve with a butterfly exhibit and botanical garden.
If you like going hiking, and are willing to head outside of town, consider nearby Red Rock Canyon inside the Mojave Desert. Besides loads of hiking trails around the Conservation Area, there is also a 13-mile scenic drive through the canyon. If you plan to go down the scenic route during October 1–May 31 you’ll need to make a timed entry reservation ahead of the visit.
More than Weekend Entertainment
You’ll always be able to find entertainment in Las Vegas. No need to wait for the weekend! Most of the casino hotels have theaters with lively shows ranging from visiting musicians to magicians. There are also tons of nightclubs where you can go dancing or try out popular cocktails.
The Smith Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Las Vegas also hosts traveling shows and multicultural events. Residents and tourists can also enjoy popular Broadway shows and concerts here.
For more family-friendly entertainment, head over to the AdventureDome at the Circus Circus hotel. You don’t have to be a guest at the hotel to purchase an all-day pass which gives you access to the Midway Rides, arcade, Xtreme Zone with rock climbing, and laser challenge rooms!
